Join the e-CMR revolution
The international consignment note (CMR) is an essential document for the conclusion of a transport contract. With the development of transport, its paper form is being replaced by an electronic version. From 2026 e-CMR will be mandatory in the European Union, yet more and more companies are already deciding to implement it. Join the Trans.eu pilot project to contribute to the final form of the software for generating electronic waybills.
Paper waybills vs e-CMR
Digitalisation and the electronic flow of documents in business processes is no longer a distant future, but an absolute necessity for competitiveness. More and more processes are being digitized, unfortunately this does not concern transport documents yet. A survey carried out by the Polish Institute of Road Transport reveals that traditional waybills require much time to be issued and contain a large number of errors. In addition, the CMR template used until today is just turning 50 years old.

Therefore, at Trans.eu, we are working on a solution to meet the challenges of implementing electronic waybills – both domestic (e-KLP) and international ones (e-CMR).
Advantages of electronic waybills
Waybills are becoming history because, apart from the legal changes, e-CMRs offer a number of benefits, such as:
✅faster payment for completed orders,
✅ easy archiving of documentation,
✅ quicker claims procedure,
✅ electronic and immediate PoD – “Proof of delivery”,
✅ real-time information about the status of transport execution – for all parties (constant flow of information),
✅ possibility of generating waybills from various systems e.g. TMS, WMS, ERP,
✅ elimination of paper in the process of cargo shipment,
✅ possibility of using the solution in domestic (e-KLP) and international transport (e-CMR).

Our e-CMR software is now entering the testing phase, during which we want to check whether it fully meets users’ expectations from a functional and technical point of view. Therefore, we are looking for partners who would like to participate in the pilot.

Why isn’t e-CMR widely used yet?
The Additional Protocol on e-CMR has been in place for over a decade and the vast majority of European countries have already ratified it. So why does e-CMR represent only 1% of all transport documents used in the European Union?
The answer is relatively simple – so far, no software fully meeting users’ expectations has been developed.
Thus, what are the user requirements for software to operate and manage e-CMR? The answers include:
✅ security of data provided by e-CMR,
✅ large database of users (representing a critical mass),
✅ usability and UX adapted to mobility conditions, with a focus on different roles (shipper, recipient, receiving warehouse, loading warehouse, driver, forwarder),
✅ uniform standards related to the content of e-CMR documents or security rules,
✅ openness to data import and export from systems such as TMS, WMS, ERP,
✅ compatibility between solutions and capabilities of inspection authorities in different countries (within and outside the EU),
✅ international cooperation and trust in the way data is stored.
What makes the Trans.eu solution different?
When designing our solution, we took these requirements into account. We relied on decentralised technology which allows for compatibility and wide data exchange. Blockchain technology not only guarantees availability and transparency, but also confidentiality and security. It allows for transparent storage and sharing of data between all actors involved in transport-related processes. These entities sometimes have limited trust in one another, but still need to share information, so they decide who can see the details and when.
Our software can be connected to your existing TMS, WMS or ERP system through a special API. This allows for a free exchange of information between all participants of the process, regardless of the software used. Users can monitor a transport order using various applications – from creating e-CMR to monitoring of loading, transport or unloading.
